Eric, 

The nut cover WILL fit your Sprint.  I have the same one on my '01.  That
little line on the instructions threw me also until I realized that it was
talking about the old Sprints, not the ST.

The chain-side plug takes some work....I had to lube it a little and use a
tightly folded rag and hammer to get it in all the way.
