RE: [ST] 999

I admit to being a bit disappointed with the duc's looks when I initially
viewed it in zine pictures. But what can you expect? The 916 era looking
ducs are so distinct, so beautifully styled (Only slightly more beautiful
than the ST!). That kind of thing only happens rarely, it would have taken a
miracle for Ducati to come up with a follow-on design that would have
matched the impact of the 916 when it was introduced. Plus, they had to move
forward with their design eventually no matter what and now was as good a
time as any.

That being said, upon viewing the new 999 and 749 in person, all my
disappointment went away. It still doesn't match the predecessor's sheer
beauty, but it is still a very beautiful bike. I would consider owning
one...perhaps the higher end 749? But there are several bikes I would own
first. I'm afraid I'm hopelessly practical when it comes to motorcycles, and
the price tag and typically high operating cost of ducs tend to turn me off
a bit.

Later.
