Well Doug, first off, I doubt anyone one this list has more miles than you
on a '00 ST. But my guess would be something to do with fuel pick up.
Either a clogged fuel filter/pinched hose, or worse case a sticking intake
valve. The fact that it is intermittent is both good and bad. Good in that
it should be fixable w/o major engine rebuild, bad in that it is harder to
diagnose. I would start with fuel delivery and work into the internals
after that.
