Re: [ST] random stupid acts

Stupid is stopping on the gravel infield of a moderately banked curve for a
roadside conference, and then taking off for the left turn in second. The
bike died while already leaned over, toward the low side of the banking. I
reach flat foot comfortably normally, but barely. This put the bike well
beyond center when I got a leg under it. It went down hard, and slid an inch
downslope.

Double stupid is standing up on the roadside-modified peg after the
aforementioned first act of stupidity. The relocated pillion peg served as a
usable ledge to rest the foot on for upshifts , but it dangles at a crazy
angle. Only the tiniest bit of soft aluminum bears on the mounting tab, but
it's suitable for getting you home in a pinch. Unless, that is, you forget
yourself and uselessly bring your ass off the seat at a rough railroad
crossing. Shimming it with doubled and redoubled cardboard torn from a
cigarette carton made it much more secure for the rest of the 900 miles
home.

Total damage: $375 fairing; $32 peg; $99 shifter; $214 pannier cover; $33
clutch lever.
