[ST] situational awareness

There are 3 secrets to longevity on a
bike: concentration, concentration and concentration. This means
keeping your eyes always moving; it's a fact that anytime your eyes
STOP moving, your mind is able to wander off to another subject but
while your eyes are actually moving your mind can only think about
what your eyes are seeing. Try it for yourself!

There are two concepts I like to introduce here both of which take a little
training and more importantly self discipline. They are from two different
vocations that I have a little more than occasional use. Professional pilots
have a term called Situational Awareness. In essence it means that one is
aware of all things they may encounter that could influence what happens to
them and what their response will be. "Leaving your options open and
planning"

The other comes from Self Defense and sets conditions of the mind. Condition
Green means that you are relaxed and there are no threats at that particular
time. Condition Yellow means that you feel that there is a potential threat
and are prepared to take the appropriate action to deal with the threat.
Condition Red means that you have a real threat and are moving either
offensively or defensively to deal with the threat.

These are both rather simplistic explanations but you get the idea. Using
both concepts one is aware of what is going on in their bubble and are
prepared to deal with each contingency.

Works for me.
