A friend gave me the genuine John Deere o-ring when I first got my ST 
and I gave it a try. I must not be very dexterious, though; I couldn't 
get the o-ring to easily roll in and out of position. It might be that 
I have heated grips and the o-ring doesn't work so well with them. 
Regardless, I now use a Throttle Rocker and am quite happy with that 
solution.
