[ST] Thoughts on gearing after first ride

I just got back from my first test ride with the 17T front
sprocket and my opinion is that this is an excellent change
to make. Up in the Sierra passes, 2nd is now a much more
useable gear; I found that it worked very well keeping the
engine at an RPM level I like in all those tight switch
backs. I did find, during one instance of passing a car in
a long straight section, that at 85 or 90 MPH, I was hunting
for another gear above 6th; I'm sure that's just because I
was trying to shift up because of vibration feel; the RPMs
weren't especially higher than normal. First gear, however,
is now most useable for stump pulling. :-)

One thing, though: I'm going to have to replace the chain. I
don't know if this one is stretched after only 6000 miles, or
if the 17T front on an RS causes a big difference, but with
the chain properly adjusted, I'm clear at the stops on the
adjusters; there's nothing left to use if the chain
stretches any more. Did anyone else find this to be the
case after putting the 17T on? I'm not sure how much
difference there is in adjustability between the ST and the
RS. I'm thinking I might want to go for a 107 link chain
instead of the standard 108.
