Generally speaking, this should be safe as long as the car is not running,
and you pay attention to hooking up, don't short anything out, etc.  I've
had to jump a couple of older bikes from cars and didn't have a problem,
of course they didn't sport ECU's or anything but then a battery is a
battery (12v, etc).
