I note that there is a recall for this in some 2001->2002 models
I have had an enquiry about anyone who has, or knows of anyone who
has,
had an accident as a result of this fault and if they received the
recall notice.
Anyone know anything?

I know of no accidents caused by the specific recall part.
I have a bike that was in the affected range. I put around 30,000 miles on
the bike before the bearing got replaced. No sign of impending failure on
the old bearing. My father, who works in a Triumph dealership in the
midwest USA here, has done a few dozen bearing changes for this recall.
None showed signs of impending failure.
