RE: [ST] Whither the Trophy?



The Trophy in its current configuration has been canned, some would say
finally.  It is my understanding that it will not be gone from the lineup
for long, but knowing triumph it'll be just long enough to miss a season
completely.  As others have said, expect the replacement to have shaft
drive, somewhere around 1300cc and priced around the FJR.

The RS on the other hand has met a somewhat odd demise.  As some of you may
know there was actually no official 2003 RS, merely a bunch of leftover
2002's, at least that was the case in the US.  In the UK (and a very few in
the US, think I've heard one on this list) the RS was produced with the SSA.
I tend to think this was as a result of just using what parts they had
available to keep the model going and use up left-over stock.  Now rumor has
it for 2004 some 200 or so of these SSA RS's will make their way stateside
again as an unofficial model.  I have it on good authority that after this
the RS is done, it hasn't sold well and with prices dropping on the other
bikes it makes even less sense to keep it around.  Why pay $9500 for an RS
(who does this?) when you can get a Daytona for $10k.  And speaking of
dropping prices I just check TA's site and the S3 is down to under 9 grand
(8,890) HOLY COW, where was that 3 years ago?!? Is that my checkbook I smell
burning...
