You're right.  They oughta take pointers from Honda.  They seem to be the
experts on new introductions.  Take the rumored CBR1000RR.  It's still that
- - just a rumor.  They probably won't officially announce something until a
couple months before they are ready to ship.

I think it would have served them better to keep a lid on it until a few
months before the actual release. The heightened anticipation of not exactly
knowing could have helped them, I would think.
