I have heard and stated the same thing myself. I was repeating what I had
heard and had no personal experience. But prior Yamaha FZR1000s have had
18/44. My brother with that set-up (and more hp than my Sprint) experienced
normal chain and sprocket life. Ultimately I went with 18/44 to preserve
stock axle to axle distance, and I thought that 18/45 might be geared
slightly lower than what I was seeking.
In theory I agree with you, but at this point if I had to bet on the matter
my money would be on "insignificant difference."
