Cheers Rod,
With all the recent exchanges regarding shock length I wasn't too sure if
our "post-fire" ST's had been fitted with RS shocks or what exactly was
going on. HyperPro certainly believed the two were different. The RS kit
comes with the 0705 spring, the ST kit comes with the 0519. Having spoken
with HyperPro UK, who in turn have spoken to the chaps in Amsterdam, the
0705 will apparently be the new "standard" spring for the ST.
Anyway ... to the main point.
I cannot compare HyperPro with Racetech emulators, but I can say that, for
me, the HyperPro combi kit is a significant improvement over the stock set-up.
As reference, I weigh ~140 lbs without riding kit and am ~5' 10" tall. I
don't cruise but I don't race. Basically, I wasn't heavy enough to compress
the standard fork or rear spring properly at all. Front static sag
especially was minimal.
As a bang for buck improvement, this kit is real value. I at first thought
the front was now vague, but I've realized it's actually because the
suspension is working as opposed to simply skipping and bouncing. I have
several "nasty" bumps on my way to work depending on my route, and this
change has turned several of those from "nasty" to "completely
unremarkable". The bike just goes over/across them with not a worry.
Having discovered how little effect the damping adjustment on the standard
rear shock has, I can see stage two of this evolution being a further
purchase of a HyperPro rear shock and RaceTech emulators for the front
(with the HyperPro springs!?!) - but only after another few months at the
very earliest. I'll spend some time and miles acquainting myself with this
set-up first.
So far, I can only recommend the HyperPro combi kit.
Cheers,
Stephen (Spud) McS.
