RE: [ST] Valve wear....NOOOOOOOOO



It took me about 4 hours to remove the head on my ST and about the same to
put it back in.  This doesn't count the time it takes to make the special
tool to remove the engine mounts, though (or you can just buy it).  I was
taking my time and this could likely be taken out and reinstalled in less
than 4 hours by someone who has done it before.  IIRC, the seats are not
replaceable, so you want to choose a valve shop that knows what it is doing
or you will be buying a new head.

I would question further whether it is necessary at this point.  Are the
valves shims getting out of tolerance?  The largest shim recommended by the
book is 3.20.  What size shims did they use? and how close are they to the
max?

As far as costs to replace the valves, guides, grind/lap the seats, just
call a Triumph dealer and ask.  I don't remember anyone having to do this,
though my memory isn't as good as it was 20 years ago.
