RE: [ST] Swingarm Spool for RS to fit "Quick Stand?"

The spools use standard socket head cap screws (Allen bolts, if you will),
typically in metric sizes such as M6x1.0 The spools have a clearance hole
through with a counterbore for the screw head. There is no thread in the
spools. That's why there called spools, I guess. They're made similar to a
thread spool.

The RIGHT way to drill for them is to find or grind a flat spot on the rear
swingarm's solid aluminum axle mount, just aft of where the rectangular
extruded spars are welded to them, but forward of the furthest forward
position of the axle. It's a tight spot, to be sure.

I've seen some non-thinking people drill & tap into the spars themselves,
and rip the spools right out of (what is essentially sheet metal) swingarm
the first time they lift with the spools.

Yes, if you're in the Berkshires, you'd be near me. Join another group?
Thanks, but I have a very full plate now. It's YOU who need to join MY
group, my friend. :)

Thanks for the info Ken. I never considered drilling
my swingarm. Do u just drill it and then thread it
with a sheet metal screw that has the same pitch as
the spool?

Reason I'm doing this? I live in an apartment complex
and my bike lives outside unfortunately so lugging a
stand down from my high-rise doesn't work well. Also
when on the road.....yes I can push the bike a
bit....loob a little, push the bike a bit....loob a
little etc. etc. but honestly I'm going to fit my new
Loobman chain oiler so that's not the issue.

The issue is flat tires for me. I'm doing a 3500-4000
mile trip going down to the VFR ReVolt Rally in June
and working my way back up via NC, TN, KY, WVA, PA,
NY, CT. I want to be sure I am prepared for whatever
comes my way. Also, it's just something I think is
cool to be honest and I don't feel like paying for a
centerstand or swingarm stand for those couple times
when I need it.

Thanks for the help....I'm just lining up the mods for
the summer! (Silver Star headlight bulbs, Hella fork
lights, vista cruise, etc, etc.)
