Art,
You say that the Triumph books frequently have errors after having given
two examples of Honda books having errors. Do you know of any specific
errors in the Triumph books? I mean, this is a Triumph list, is it not?

Also, please notice that my suggestion was to "read the instructions"
not necessarily follow them. The original writer said that after the
install he discovered bolts, brackets and instructions at the bottom of
the box. Mistake #1 was not bothering to look in the box before
proceeding. This is not what the so-called "wise mechanic" would do. The
"wise mechanic" would at least look at the instructions. Mistake #2 was
asking the list what he was missing without bothering to look at the
instructions. The "wise mechanic" would not admit to this.

Think about it. Picture yourself as a shop owner. One of your "wise
mechanics" walked up to you after installing a part. In his or her hands
are some bolts, brackets and instructions. The "wise mechanic" says that
they were in the bottom of the box and asks what are they for. What
would you do? Tell him or her that that the instructions are "not worth
the ink that wrote it" and toss it all out?
