re: [ST] Wheelies

<Why? :-) Wheelying out of corners is the most fun you can have with your
clothes on in my opinion.

i've seen guys hold wheelies for more than a mile on street. i've seen
trials guys do gymnastics with bikes that leave me stunned. but i've never
felt comfortable with my own front wheel off the ground [we won't count
dirt jumps] - especially when the bike is not pointed where the turn is.
but...

in 1970 a couple of friends and i rode from Pittsburgh to Watkins Glen to
watch the races. we judged our trip very poorly - the ride was great, but
it took all day to get there. we knew we had no time to see the races. we
camped out, and got an early start home. about 6:30am we were rolling
through town, me on my Triumph 650, my best bud Don next to me on his.
somehow another group of bikes had tagged on our tails.

ahead of us, two girls were crossing the road to a breakfast place. even
from a distance, these girls were obvious head turners, and this was
pre-silicone. Don and i braked to stop, so the girls could cross in front
of us. they made it a parade. zowie, what a parade. some car owner musta
had a great night.

as they cleared our line of appreciative vision, without any prompting or
collusion, Don and i hit the throttle. hard. and did side-by-side wheelies
for all of first gear. and that was pre- Domokos.

and:

<Well, gee Bruce, I never realized you were working so hard to keep up
with
me then :))

Maybe I didn't realize it because you never had more than ONE hand on the
bars at any given time. And that diabolical grin in my "6" had me worried
:)

Folks, a word of caution, Bruce is fast, very fast, faster than me, as
fast
as Blake or Kohlscheen or Danzinger, and that is fast, peeps.

happy trails,

umm, Steve, that missing paint on my lower fairing is from careful work
with a belt sander. yeah, that's it. and the ride Steve is associating was
on Rt 123 in Arkansas, when *I* was trying to keep up with *HIM*. so i'm
not faster. just because we sorta ran off and hid from the rest of the
guys doesn't make me want to lay bets on lap times with the fast blokes.

that ride on Mo. 125 [Rueter to Bradleyville] was chasing some seriously
deranged HSTA guys on true sport rides. there are guys who show up for
that weekend on track bikes with a plate zip-tied on.

umm, i kept up. it took two hands.
