[ST] Lowered Hagon monoshock for RS

I promised to report back once I'd had my new shock
fitted. You will recall that my original shock died at
about 27,000 miles. The oil had escaped so it was no
longer damping. But it never was that brilliant. I
went to Hagon because (a) Martin Hagon offered me a
great deal for using my RS as his template, and (b)
they could make it lower by up to 40mm, which as a
shortarse I really wanted.

I picked the RS up on Saturday, and I've already done
about 300 miles, in all weathers and on all sorts of
roads. I opted for only 25mm lower but can get both
feet flat on the deck now, and immediately put to good
use when paddling carefully across wet grass on a
campsite, a real treat! I haven't yet managed to touch
down in a bend, and though I guess that'll happen
earlier now it was rare anyway. It's a lovely smoothe
ride - softer and plusher than the stock item, but
still feeling very planted and stable. Lovely.

Finish looks good - dare I say it's better quality
than the stock item. It has a preload ring and you get
a spanner for it but I've been advised it's been set
up for me and not to fiddle! It also has a single
Allen key for the linked compression/rebound
adjustment, which has also been set up for me but
which I am 'allowed' to play with, although judging by
my first miles I won't need to.

They said that getting the old shock out was fiddly,
since it has a damper sticking out sideways at the top
so won't drop out the bottom of the bike. They had to
take lots of bodywork off to get it out the top. The
original is sealed too, so not really economic to
rebuild. Beware that you might have to pay for a whole
day's labour to get the old one off and the new one on
and set up right.

So note that Hagon now do normal or lowered shocks for
the RS, and although it's not yet on the website just
call and ask. The soft ride and linked damping
probably won't suit track day heroes, but if you're
into doing serious miles in comfort, and/or want a
lower seat height, and all at a price that beats
everything else around, I can recommend it highly:
