[ST] 'pretty but unreliable'

Have to comment

I'm on my 4th Hinkley Triumph (02ST) and about to take delivery of a Speed 4
to add to the fleet (also taking delivery of a 1600 Marauder, so not
one-eyed). All 4 bikes have been as good as or better than any bikes I've
had (and I've ridden Triumph (Meriden), Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha,
Norton, BSA, Ariel (Sq4 now that was unreliable), HD (pissed more oil than
the Norton)) over 35 years. The only issues I've ever had with the Hinkley
Triumphs have been dealer induced through slack mechanics.

If you want 'pretty but unreliable', pity the Yamaha Road Star owners told
not to ride their bikes because of a potential catastrophic transmission
failure. I hear some have been off the road for 4 months or more, or the
cooked engines on VTX1800's, or the Kawasaki transmission failures, or the
local Harley Rider's Group that has to have a follow up truck to pick up the
inevitable failure. (Ask anyone with an early Twin Cam about camshaft
bearing failures), anyone remember a certain Honda model with so many
failures that would have driven any other manufacturer to the wall? Try the
failure rate on K1200's. Get a copy of the US Motorcycle Consumer News and
read the recall lists - We've got it great compared with some unfortunate
owners.

Like any manufacturer there is the occasional 'Monday Morning Bike', but
there is no way to justify a sweeping statement like 'pretty but
unreliable'.

At 4 Triumph Rallys here in Aus, I've met a lot of Hinkley owners from early
90's to current and have only come across a couple with any consistent
complaint of a 'Monday Morning Bike', and the local Japanese brand dealers
seem very happy to have a Hinkley on their lot.

Cheers
Rob
