In the Triumph Sprint ST shop manual Triumph expressly recommends against
NOT using oils as low as 5wt  they recommend 10-40wt 20-50wt and
15-50wt   they state that using 5-50 or 5-60 etc will cause clutch problems.

I've read that too but got tired of paying for "Triumph Mobil 1" and decided
to try the Castrol Syntec with the same R4T4 "superbike" rating at 1/2 the
price in both my bikes. I've been using it now for three oil changes & the
ST shifts easier, especially when cold. No clutch issues. I even suggested
they change the plates at the last big service but they said don't waste
your money, it's fine.
