Well, there's the rub (no pun intended)!  The wrong oil, unless it is 
dramatically wrong, won't make the engine blow up.  It'll just let some 
part of the engine wear out a little sooner.  And, given all the other 
variables (riding style, temperatures, oil change frequency) that 
probably have a much larger impact on engine wear, the choice of motor 
oil brand probably isn't very significant.  I'll caveat that by saying 
that I believe there *is* a significant difference between 
non-synthetic and synthetic oils, though.
