RE: [ST] for Chris - clutch cable

What I did when my cable broke in the mountains of NC was put a pair of vise
Grips on the clutch shaft and use them as a suicide clutch. Worked great,
shifted without a clutch up and down through the gears but going into
neutral was tough to do without the clutch so I would reach down and pull on
the vise grips to dis-engage the clutch and then tap it in neutral and come
to a stop. Starting out was much tougher but it was done by getting the
bike rolling and then dropping it into gear. As far as changing the clutch
cable, I changed mine without removing any panels, you can see the route of
the cable before you remove the old one and just route the new one the same
way. Very simple process.

 >>> My clutch cable broke this morning while I was out riding -
luckily I was able to make it back without stopping. <<<

For next time: You can make a few stops with no clutch if your
battery is up. Slip it into neutral before you come to a stop - shut
off the ignition and snick it into first as the engine stops - when
the light turns green, pull in the clutch handle to close the ign.
relay, start the engine in gear and drive away. Also, I always carry
a pair of vicegrips in my bags;... depending on where a cable breaks,
you can often pull the cable with the vicegrips.

                                       Have fun;
