[ST] Front Wheel Bearings

Saturday night my front wheel bearings gave up the ghost with 23K on
them. There was some warning earlier in the day when I felt a few
strange impulses.

The owner of my local independent motorcycle garage has seen this on
other Triumph's and yet has seen 20 year old Jap bikes with original
bearings. He believes the issue is the seals. He does not think the
seals seal well on the inside race of the bearing. I assume this also
means the seals that seal against the axle are not doing a good job.
Anyhow water gets in and the grease turns milky and the bearing fails.

Next time you have your front tire changed I would recommend having the
bearings repacked (I think this is a common practice in Europe anyway).
Even though they are sealed it is easy enough to pop the seals off.

Personally I think the bearings failed because they are not compatible
with an English bike. They are made in France :)
