The "one foot" of oval plastic you're referring to might be a small toilet
seat somewhere, but the Triumph luggage rack on my ST is a fairly
substantial bit of kit, as they say....bolts up nicely and provides a
rugged, stable platform for a variety of top boxes.  I'm using a small Givi
Micro 2, which is fine for a single full face helmet, gloves, cell phone,
and a 9MM Sig....
