[ST] Main Beam

When I flick on main beam on my '02 ST, only one headlight is on - on
low beam both are on. I don't think is right IIRC - I checked with a
buddy of mine on an '01 ST and on his both lights come on on high beam.
Before I go out and snag a new bulb can someone tell me if both lights
should be on when on main beam on an '02 ST (I rode at night last night
and on high beam it was not good but it never was good anyway...).
Assuming I need a new bulb - is it worth upgrading to these new fangled
bulbs and can I get just one (and what should I be looking for ??) and
replace the other as it dies ??
Time for a bulb thread ??
