FWIW, I intermittently was bothered by gas/petrol odour when I entered my
garage. I could never find the source, however, and it would not recur for
a while. I believe this started some time after I removed the tank to
check the steering head bearing. I just did not trust it, though, since it
kept recurring so I replaced the plastic fuel fittings with the metal ones
from Team Triumph of Wisconsin (USA). They were very easy to install and
are beautifully made. No odour for several months. I realize you won't be
able to do this before your trip but it's something to consider on your
return. I'm at work (couldn't you tell?), so I don't have any torque
settings available. Good luck.
