[ST] RE: Ohlins question

Yes the sag was correct when I put the shock on originally about 30,000
miles ago. I have no doubt that the vendor would take care of it, the
problem is it would cost me $200-300 in lost billable time to take it to
him (only open during business hours and a long way from where I work).
The dampening feels really good so I don't think he did anything wrong, per
se, just set the preload a little soft.

I was hoping to do it myself (I'm a competent mechanic, just not sure how
to do this particular task and I don't have an Ohlins service manual) to
save myself the time and lost income.

So...anybody service an Ohlins shock themself and know how to change the
base preload?

Thanks.

I'd say they, the vendor, owes you to correct what they did wrong in
servicing the unit.>>>

have an Ohlins shock on my 99 ST and have had for many years and many
miles. Recently I took it to be serviced along with the forks. After
bolting everything back together and trying to set the sag I find that the
rear preload is insufficient even with the hydraulic adjuster at maximum. I
need to adjust the base preload.

The Ohlins manual says to take it to an Ohlins-authorized service center to
do this. I can certainly take it to the place that did the service, but
that's inconvenient. Has anyone successfully modified the base preload on
an Ohlins shock with a hydraulic adjuster? If so, what's the trick...and
why does Ohlins want you to go to a shop to do it?
