[ST] Speedmaster Problem

Here is a problem that a friend of mine is having with
his Speedmaster..any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause of this?

Twice in the past week the engine of my '03
Speedmaster cut out after being
ridden for between two to seven miles. The engine
stopped suddenly as if
the kill switch was tripped. Both times it would not
start immediately
afterward, and, this may or may not be related, both
times it was raining.

Details:

Each ride began on a cold engine, but the engine was
warm when it quit.

Each time it happened while accelerating at an easy
pace after waiting at a
signal light. I was in second gear the first time,
and in second or third
gear the second time.

When the engine quit, the headlight, oil light,
neutral light, etc.,
continued to operate.

Immediately afterward engine would crank as normal,
but would not
catch. In both cases, 45 minutes afterward engine
would catch but would
not idle, could only run at high RPMs, and not in a
ridable manner. In
both cases, the next day, the bike started perfectly.

Today, the dealer (Performance Cycle in Sacramento,
California) started it
up normally, road it around for 20 miles, and let the
engine idle for over
two hours. Today there was no rain, so they tried
spraying water all over
it and under it while it idled. They could not get
the malfunction to repeat.
