You'll have no known problem using the Gerbing gear. I have their heated
Jacket Liner and Heated Gloves (plus Triumph heated grips), and they work
great! I considered getting the heated pants too, but the Triumph Frontiers
pants I have are very comfortable to well below 30F. On the worst days, I
have the pant's quilted liner in, and wear polypropolene "long johns" with
them. No problems at all.
I don't know the output of the 2002 & up alternators (internal to the
motor), but the 2001 & prior ST and RS have a 580 watt Denso unit. Even with
the load of the bike itself, you should still have over 400 watts available.

Subject: [ST] winter riding
Well it is nearing that time of year when my daily rides will consist of
a feeling of dread until I get out in it and start to ride. In the past
I've done fairly well with suiting up for winter without spending a ton on
specialty winter riding gear. I've experimented with different clothing,
but this year I am very close to doing the electric pants and jacket liner
from Gebring. Besides wanting information on this sort of clothing I also
need to know if anyone has had a problem with the wattage used by the
clothing and the output of the alternator. I think this was discussed
before, but I need info again.
Thanks in advance,
Tim Elliott
