... or something's wrong.
Got up this morning and went to the bike.... And when I switched on the
key and hit the starter.. nothing. not even a whisper. I went through
the whole check system of "stupid things ceren forgets"... and came up
with nothing. Then I noticed the indicator lights were so dim I could
barely see them.
I went and got a set of jumpers and set up the bike with a friend's car.
Indicators went bright. So I let it sit there and charge a bit.
Attempted starts resulted in pathetic weak attempts to turn over, and so
I let it sit several minutes attached to the running car. Then I
stubbornly held the starter down for 30 seconds as the turnover attempts
erratically sped up, and then it finally caught. Let it run for 15
minutes, (noticed the engine light was on, though I suspect this is due
to it losing its poor mind due to low battery) and then turned it off to
put the luggage back on.
I tried to start it, carefully listening to the fuel prep whine, to see
if I could hear anything different (I could be imagining things by
now).... and it tried twice to turn over and gave up. Crap.
I don't think the parking light was on overnight. I parked against a
wall and would have likely noticed.
In the past couple weeks the fuel sender crapped out on me, and I
employed the Magical Faith-Based Black Tape Initiative Fix... and it
came back to life.
So, aside from the obvious "you left the light on, stupid" possibility -
might I be looking at a short? I wouldn't hesitate to blame the battery
and replace it, if 1) the previous owner wasn't the type to fanatically
change it at least once a year, whether it needed it or not and 2) the
fuel sender hadn't been behaving oddly.
Barring that, what's a good mechanic shop for Triumphs near
Emeryville/Oakland, California? :( I'd take it to Scuderia in a
heartbeat, but they're across the bridge. It might end up there anyway.
