Probably due to volume, but I know for a fact that many times the dealer could go to the same site that any of us use and buy tires for the same or less than what the distributor would charge him at dealer cost.

Can't remember where I was, but I asked the following question to the
parts manager or owner of the shop

me "is there anything you can do on the price of tires, with the mail
order prices as they are it is really hard to justify buying locally as
much as I would like to do"

shop guy "you see they have volume, we can't compete"

me "well what about getting together with other local shop owners and
forming a co-op like they do in farming ......."

shop guy .... blank stare ..... walked away.

It's not like I asked him how to commercially develop fusion or anything.

oh well, at some point I want to get the few tools to change the rim
protectors at home. I finally have the space.

cheers,
Tom
