I find this very interesting as my Honda VFR manual calls for the use of Kerosene on O-ring chain.  I use enough Kerosene to dampen a rag and wide down the entire chain.  I then spray it with Bel-Ray chain lube,  I used to use 90 weight gear oil but got tired of the mess.
