I still say the whole lube thing is over rated. My experience has 
suggested that my chain lasted as long as many who religiously lubed 
their chain. 23k miles, and it was replaced due to a 5-8k mile trip, not 
because it was out of spec.

The chain was cleaned using WD40 soaked shop paper towels and lubed 
every 3-5k miles.
