I was at my dealer about 2-weeks ago for a new front tire for my 01 and he 
had just set-up and uncrated a silver 05 .  He asked if I wanted to take it 
for a test ride so I could compare it to my bike.  Well that didn't take too 
much arm twisting.
My impression on the new model;
Seating position is about the same, braking seems the same, the ENGINE 
however certainly feels stronger and smoother at all RPMs, sounds quieter at 
idle, yet has the nice triple sound on accelerating and decelerating.. maybe 
the underseat exhaust contributes to sound, I don't know.  Other aspects; 
the dash and instruments are greatly improved; especially for me as I am in 
the habit of not turning off the turn signals and since I am an ugly cuss, I 
don't like looking at myself in the gauges.  Lastly the bike seems to turn 
quicker and the dealer told me they had reduced the rake a couple of 
degrees, it is noticeable, but the bike is still stable.  My 2001 is still 
good for another year, well actually more than just 1 year but I am pretty 
sure I will be in the market for a 2006 ST
