Re: [ST] EFI Tuning

Rod,

If I have Triumph tune 9890 (stock RS with aftermarket exhaust) loaded
in the ECU of my RS, what number does TuneBoy return, 9890 or 9888 (the
base tune number)? It had better be 9890 or else I would NEVER be able
to determine which tune was loaded. Perhaps your comment about the
number returned by TuneBoy only apply to CUSTOM tunes created by others
using TuneEdit?

What I'm thinking is that if you start with a specific tune, like 9890
(which happens to be based on tune 9888) then there are certain
differences in the fuel and ignition maps that were necessary to
accommodate the TRIUMPH performance can. If someone then uses TuneEdit
to customize tune 9890 for another aftermarket can, then the file can be
posted for download and the benefit of others. But at that point, as
far as TuneBoy (or the Gameboy) is concerned it would be seen as tune
9890 even though we know the mappings would be different from the
official Triumph tune known by the same number. To avoid the confusion
that could potentially result from this, Wayne assigns a unique number
for this custom tune and embeds this new number in the tune file.

Is this even close to being right?
