RE: [ST] Chain Life

Well Denis, based upon my experience with another NTSR member's sprocket and
chain swap, one thing I will NOT recommend is a cheap set from Sprocket
Specialists. The front was stamped out crappy steel, thinner and fit much
looser than the stocker. As you pointed out, no damper like the stock one
either.

The rear was much worse! It's main bore was so out-of-round that we had to
file down spots here and there to get it on. Junk. The OEM stuff, if I
recall correctly, is made by Sunstar. I would recommend Afam too, as I know
they've got a good reputation for quality.

I'll bring my 3/4" drive breaker bar and socket. When we did that 1st one,
it took me, Triumph Joe, and a length of pipe to break the countershaft
sprocket nut free. OTOH, when I got the bigger/better tools to do mine, it
was so loose I could have done it with my 1/4" drive ratchet. WTF?

We'll do it if you have the right parts. Ben has the D.I.D. chain tool, the
best one I've seen yet.

I have 19K on my original chain, which begs the question, what would be a
good replacement, and also I should probably do the sprockets, too. I know
I should stay with a Triumph front sprocket for the damper, but what about
the rear? Costs? We have our annual "garage day" coming up here in New
England, and I may get everything together so that I can get some help with
the installation...

Ken??

Thanks
