You have an air leak somewhere downstream of the throttle bodies.

Subject: [ST] idle again
I know this was gone over not to long ago, but I've lost my saved
e-mails to refer to. My 00 RS started idling up and down from 900rpm's
to 1800rpm's. With the clutch in, it idles at around 900- 1200rpm's.
1300 has always been the norm for this bike. If I put it in neutral it
jumps way up aroud 1500-1800 erratically. Yesterday it almost died
while going down the road, breif hesitation and then continued as
normal. Any ideas anyone could rehash for me on an inconsistent idle
would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
TimE
