Re: [ST] For what it's worth

Something to be said for the Daytona is Triumph's focus on making it a
real-world sports bike. If you read through reviews of the Daytona
over the last few years, you will find that, yes, it is heavier and
down on overall power from the rice-rockets; but many of the reviews
say that it is a better road bike. While the Daytona may lack hp and
have extra heft that adds seconds to a lap on a race track, many of
the reviewers even say that for non-track duty, they would prefer the
daytona. The "short-comings" are not evident on roads; It has a
better feel for going over manhole covers and seems and bumps, and
better comfort, and more performance than you will use on a road.
While taking the Daytona to a "shoot-out" on the track will show that
it is not the best track weapon, the Daytona may actually be better on
public roads. Now that doesn't make you penis seem larger when
sitting at a traffic light or local watering hole (where every ounce
less of bike weight and .5 more hp gives you more machismo), but
again, it may be better for the road.

An interesting article along these lines (all though it takes it to a
further extreme), is from Motorcycle Online. The article is titled
"It ain't the Tool: The Canyon Carving Shootout". I'll send in some
excerpts - it's really a fantastic article.

The caveat, is for those of us who actually do track time, and do it regularly.
