Are you thinking of Ewoks?
George Lucas has a ranch outside Stockton, North California. An area
heavily populated by Filipino Americans, his ranch hands are all
filipino. Small ones as it happens. Perfect for the Ewok charachters.
In the film the weapons are ancient Filipino weapons and the dialect
they speak in is a mixture of Tagalog and another one whos term
escapes me.
