[ST] Logging Truck . . . .

Today I had a good reminder of why I try to "keep away from" or "get
around" 18 wheelers when at all possible no matter what vehicle I'm in
or on. Luckily, I was not on my bike. I was one a two lane road with
a shoulder on each side in East Texas. I was just about to pass what
appeared to be an empty logging truck that was going the opposite
direction when what I thought was a good size piece of wood (approx. 1
foot in length to approx. 4-5" in diameter) comes bouncing out from
under the truck. It bounced once, and I picked a direction in which to
swerve because I didn't know where it would go next. This piece of
"wood" ended up lodged in my Yukon XL's radiator, pushing it back
roughly 8-12" up against my engine, obviously destroying my front grill
on the way in . . . . . The truck & I pulled off the road. He had to
as well. He had lost a U-joint, and what entered my radiator and was
still in there when I took a closer look was a nice sized piece of his
drive shaft. . . . . I don't know that I could have done anything
different if I was on my bike. I would have presented a more
manouverable and smaller target, but IF I missed this piece of metal, I
would have had to stop and collect myself, to say the least. . . . I'm
just glad that today that piece of metal didn't bounce any higher. Be
careful around these big guys. You never know what will happen . . . .
