I bought my bike second hand, so I didn't get the complimentary RAT membership, but the general sentiment I've found is that it's about useless save for 4 issues of bathroom reading material that doesn't come on time.
There are so many different insurancce discounts available (MSF endorsement, AMA, multi-vehicle, etc...) that it would have to be a SIGNIFICANT break to make me take it or switch.

I'd like to know too. I joined when I bought my bike largely to find
out what the scoop was, but apart from Torque seems not to be so
helpful. I've not had the chance to go on any of the Rat Runs it
describes, but I suppose one day I might. I also thought I saw that
you can get a discount on insurance, I guess I'll find out when I come
to renew if this is so or not.
