Unbelievable...I called Sylvania first thing this morning, and was able

talk to an actual human without waiting.  And she was VERY pleasant. 
I
described the situation, and she actually apologized for the problem! 
AND
she said she would send a replacement bulb today!!

She asked if I would send the broken bulb back so that they could do a
failure analysis on it.

I must be dreaming...
