Re: [ST] Cable lubrication

To do the job properly you need a Hydraulic Cable Oiler, something like
this.
http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=CABH

You remove the cable from the clutch lever, attach the tool to the end of
the cable and then pump fresh oil in to the cable until it comes out the
other end. The tool has a rubber washer sandwiched between two metal washers
that allow you obtain a tight seal around the cable outer. You then fill the
tool with oil and wind in the plunger at the top of the tool. The pressure
forces the oil into the cable and all the crud out the other end.

There is another oiler for use with aerosols which can work well for smaller
cables

They're not as effective though as the oils have to be thin to work and
while there may be enough pressure to get oil all the way through the cable
there's rarely enough to shift existing contaminants or corrosion. This type
aren't big enough to handle the STs clutch cable.

Howlin'
