RE: Laters(Re: [ST] Yahoo Lists)

Brian's observations mirror my own. Approximately 2 years ago I volunteered
to assume the TSRA website and attempted to organize an Eastern Rally - both
efforts were essentially ignored or unsupported by the TSRA. I ultimately
gave-up on the TSRA and over time, have become a lurker on the ST list.
I've been similarly disappointed with Triumph RAT activities in my area
(Atlanta).

The ST list has many experienced riders and knowledgeable participants - I
don't know why we're so disfunctional as a rider's group. Perhaps, it's the
nature of motorcycle riders - at the core, most of us are opinionated
individualists.

I used to run a website and forum for a non-motorcycle group that ran very
successfully on a commercially hosted server costing about $80 per year. I
don't think it would be hard to solicit donations from list members to fund
such a website. I note that currently, www.TriumphSprint.org is an
available domain and godaddy.com has a sale on domains for $3.99 per year.
In my mind, this would be a far better solution than a Yahoo group. I no
longer have the interest in running such a site, but would contribute to the
cause if another list member cared to assume the responsibility.

That having been said, I want to note that running a website/forum/list or
club is far more work than one would imagine - it also tends to be a
thankless job. I was happy to relinquish my responsibilites regarding the
non-motorcycle website. I think we should all thank Eric and the TSRA group
for their efforts - but it's time to move forward.

I don't know why you're shouting. I'm taking those caps as an
insinuation that there has been no one offer to help and are placing the
blame on the community, and I resent that. If that's not your intent, I
apologize for the following...

There have been MANY people both capable and willing volunteer to help
upgrade/host both the triumphnet and TSRA websites, as well as the ST
list, myself included. MORE THAN ONE of us who have volunteered have
later thrown our hands up in disgust and given up on the whole scenario
when after months our offers were either ignored or forgotten or what, I
don't know.

Eric and TSRA both asked for help and then seemingly have done nothing
with what was offered. As a result, both websites are a JOKE. It is
a disgrace that neither of them has been updated in YEARS. I'm amazed
that new people still even find the list, especially as they come
looking for info on the new STs. You can't even find info on the model
changes for the 02 upgrade on triumpnet!

It's a disgrace to the community and to the Sprint itself. I urge Eric
(and also whoever is at the helm of TSRA nowadays, if anyone, if it even
still exists) to PLEASE LET SOMEONE HELP THEM. But I don't think that
will happen, so I think a yahoo group is called for.

In fact, I'm unsubscribing from triumphnet (if the old, rusty website
will even let me) after typing all this.

I'll keep checking yahoo to find the new list and join there.

Laters,
Brian
