RE: [ST] FW: January Riding in Sunny Florida

Aw, shucks. (Pushes sand around with booted toe). Wasn't nuthin'.

You were the perfect house guest, Matt. Quiet, picked up the tab at the
restaurant and got out before you overstayed your welcome. Come back
soon.

The Thruxton slip-ons are by Predator, stainless, available from
Sel-Motion (BellaCorse) at www.bellacorse.com. They look like the
stockers except for the 20 mm hole in the end, compared to the tiny
rectum on the stockers. Retail is $499 per pair unless you are a RotLE
member, then they are $449.00. Plus shipping.

I wish he had said something about the Tiger slip-on, not only do we
sell them, but they bear our Brand Name.

Anybody else want to come down out of the snow?

Well, if anyone from the list recalls, I was groaning about being down
in West Palm, Florida the past week. Not because it was around 80
degrees and clear, but because I was there without a bike. Some of you
may also recall that Andy Kay graciously offered up a ride if I wanted
to make the trip to his place. Well, after working Saturday, Sunday
looked good (work wise, and weather wise); so I took him up on the
offer. I can't even begin to thank Andy and his wife Judy for their
generous hospitality. The two of them have a lovely place, and were
extremely generous and hospitable - letting me come up Saturday night
and stay there, and thus be able be there in the morning for the ride. I
also had the pleasure of trying some new things, such as wild duck
breasts (expertly prepared by Andy, and I believe shot by him too....),
as well as some venison sausage in the morning. Both were delicious.

On to the motorcycle content: Andy and I headed out in the morning on
the Tiger and the Thruxton, took a quick ride down the road to meet Jim
Howell (sp?), and then on to meet some other riders. We road over to
the Lake Okeechobee area and grabbed what one of the gents called "the
best fish & chips" - I don't know what that is compared too, mind
you.....but it was good. It was my first riding in Florida at all, and
DAMN!! Are those roads flat and straight... The Romans could not have
built them to their own standards any better. Every once in while you
have to turn the bike, and it takes you by surprise - not because the
turns are anything nasty, or you don't see them coming, but because
you've been lulled into not having to work on the bike at all. That,
and you have to turn the bike to get into the gas stations. All of this
reminded me just how good of a tourer the Tiger can be. And it being my
first true riding experience on a Thruxton, I was very impressed. I
would also recommend whatever slip-ons Andy has put on the Thruxton, as
it sounded good.

All in all, it was a wonderful time. Getting out in the warm and riding
when I can't up here, and getting to know Andy. It is really great to
spend some time with some people from this list. We converse freely and
often, but it lends a whole other level of close-knit/personal/etc
relationship with everyone if you get to do this. Thanks again Andy,
and I hope to catch up again with you soon. To all the others out there
- - hopefully I'll be your way in the near future(speaking of which,
anybody in Indonesia? Work beckons again.....). Maybe this traveling
to other members on the list is what I'll have to regularly do in order
to ride in the winter...hmmmm...
