Re: [ST] Coolant Temp Sensor

Jay, my experience with that exact same problem is not a good one, it started
in 2000 with my Sprint ST. They could not fix it and eventually Triumph gave me
a brand new '01 ST for my troubles. The '01 eventually developed similar
problems. The warranty solution this time was to install the race tune which
seemed to fix the surging but I got really crappy mileage. It sounded like they
were hearing a lot of this and used the afore mentioned solution as a stop gap
so they wouldn't have to pay out a lot of warranty $$. (and/or give away new
bikes)

Now that it's out of warranty I'm paying to have the problem investigated out
of my own pocket. I believe that at my 12k service which was more than a year
ago they installed whatever tune was current at the time. The bike has gotten
smoother & smoother since then and the mechanic I just took it to didn't notice
a problem at all. The fuel consumption, however, keeps getting worse & worse.
(I now average about 35 to 40 mpg (U.S.).

Recently my dealer contacted Triumph...again..and they finally admitted that an
ST with the tune currently installed should be getting 50 mpg. So I will take
it in and begin what I imagine will be the first of many trial and error fixes.
As all we'll be able to do is swap out a sensor (or other component) and wait
for me to run through a tank of fuel to see if there's a change.

I'll let you know if I find anything but for now maybe you could have them try
the high performance tune.
