all of this is a bit like the ant and grasshopper parable:

The ants work hard, build things, understand things and store food for the winter.

The grasshoppers do nothing, multiply faster than the ants, and then vote themselves into power (Nielsen ratings), whereupon they seize the Ants food and eat it.

result : the Ants move on to a grasshopper free place, and the grasshoppers starve in the winter.

The result of all this "dumbing down" on TV will be far fewer people becoming ants (designer for say triumph/ Rossi), and way too many grasshoppers (box pilots).

Sorry if that sounds a bit "Anne Ryandish", just my 2cents worth.
