I hate riding with something like a backpack, but the camelbak
doesn't bother me.  I'm pretty sure it's because the camelbak
I have is relatively thin and flat compared to most backpacks.
It doesn't really feel to me like there's much there.

On a hot day, you can fill the camelbak with icewater, tuck it
inside your jacket rather than outside, and use it to help keep 
you cool.

If you have REI in your area, go by and check out various models.
