Re: [ST] for Dirty Dawg - WIDE ST bags

I guess this is one of those "horses for courses" things.

My bike is my everyday transport so I needed a better system than the soft bag on the rack and throw over luggage. Security was a real concern.

After much deliberation I decided to buy the Triumph panniers and top box for my '99 ST. I had the bike for a year before I did this. I started taking the top box on and off but eventually left it on as it just made life so much easier. I could go somewhere and lock my jacket and helmet on the bike without having to carry them around. I know of far to many people that have had the straps of their helmets cut from the helmet lock devices. Why someone would do this is beyond me. I could carry all manner of stuff knowing that it was a lot more secure on the bike than in soft luggage. And perhaps most importantly I could fit a whole carton of beer in the top box, a case of red wine in the panniers, a few bottles of single malt tucked around it all and still have room for a few lite snacks to accompany said beverages.

IMHO - if that doesnt make the ST a true all round platform - I dont know what will.

  Look good?... certainly not! That's why nobody puts them on coffee tables;... on a motorcycle, form follows function! =8o)

>>> Not everyone wants a topbox. <<<

  I can't imagine why anybody would want one,... I wouldn't take one as a gift. But then, I'd never shell out $200 for a helmet either.
