RE: [ST] Steering Article

Absolutely. I agree it's a bit of both, but I feel that countersteering plays a stronger role. I too have influenced bike movement with the lower body whilst countersteering. Especially when the rear end is doing a little dance when making a defensive hard stop. I've use my lower body strength to influence the dance and keep from doing too much.

Although I've hung off and drug knee, I can't say that I've had the experience in using the lower body to do any influencing. At least not that I was aware of.

Although expensive, I think the Keith Code school has alot to offer. You really can't know where the limits are until you've went past it once. I think Keiths school allows you to go past them, or close, to learn the feeling and much safer because of their special design. Perhaps that's why it's more expensive. I'd like to save up and do it some day.

I'm curious to know if the slide bike can still be high side. What I mean is, what contributes to a high side is the rear sliding outside the front wheel when in a turn. If it goes too far, physics (and I don't want to get too technical) take over to make the front come back to where it's supposed to be snapping up and throwing the rider over.

So, if the outrigger slide bike is suppose to make you learn the feel of the rear sliding and then control it so not to high side, what if the slide goes too far. Does the bike still snap or do the outrigging keep it from high siding? Hmmmm. They don't mention that in the description ;-)

Ah, but I digress.

Keep the shiny side up and have fun.

<<SNIP>>
but while you can not steer a motorcycle on body input alone, it seems you can
influence it to help it along to some degree.

In fact a track day I attended (billed as an Advanced Street Riding
class) taught using the lower body to influence steering. Hard for me to put
into words but it went something like "doing the twist" with only your lower
body while in the saddle.
